We’ve Published Our Open Letter to Tara Armstrong.

Today we’re sharing our open letter to Tara Armstrong, along with an update to our supporters and a press release, laying out the concerns driving this campaign.

Ms. Armstrong,

You’re expecting a recall petition. What you’re facing is scrutiny, and it isn’t going away.

We are writing to you from the Recall Tara Armstrong campaign, the non-partisan organized effort in this riding working to hold you accountable to the people who put their trust in you.

We are here because you have failed to do the job this riding elected you to do. You campaigned as a conservative on housing, affordability, and healthcare, the issues that matter most to the people who put you in office. Your own website proudly counts up the bills you have tabled. What it does not say is how many have any chance of becoming law. Zero. Where you have touched housing directly, it has been to repeal the Speculation and Vacancy Tax and weaken rental protections, removing tools meant to free up housing stock rather than lowering costs for renters and buyers in this riding. That is not a record to be proud of. It is a stack of paper. Instead of doing the job you were tasked with, you left the party that got you elected, and you have spent your time in office on divisive politics that have nothing to do with any of the issues your constituents sent you there to fight for.

This is what your own constituents are telling us:

“This is not who I voted for. I voted Conservative and Ms. Armstrong has turned out to be something else. Frankly, I feel betrayed. She has abused my trust in the political system.” – Stephen C., Coldstream, BC

“Tara Armstrong is an ineffectual MLA. She is not working for her constituents. She has her own agenda and this is where all her focus is directed.” – Karen T., Coldstream, BC

“I do not believe Tara represents me as a mixed race constituent nor that she has the best interest of her constituents in mind. Her only concern seems to be pushing her own hateful agenda and I have yet to see her do any meaningful work for the issues she campaigned on.” – Leslie J., Kelowna, BC

Your actions, including targeting Indigenous rights, trans youth, and immigrants, have been so misaligned with your constituents that we have received an outpouring of support and formed an official recall campaign aimed at holding you accountable.

This is not personal, and as mentioned, we are a non-partisan group. This might be the first time you are paying attention to how your constituents are feeling about you. It may be a surprise to you, but it is not to us, based on how little you have engaged with this riding since before taking office.

You did not appear at a single in person debate before the last election, and many people in this riding voted on party loyalty alone, without ever hearing you answer a direct question. We believe it is time you meet your constituents in your office, in public, and answer for your record in person.

We saw this same pattern of you not caring about your constituents play out on the floor of the legislature. In April, you used the phrase “blood and soil,” a founding slogan of Nazi ideology, to attack a First Nations treaty, and posted a video of yourself saying it. When the Speaker ruled the language unacceptable, you complied in the chamber. What you leave standing on your own page tells us what you actually believe, and who you are once you’re not being forced to follow the rules of the House. At the time of writing, that video is still live on X.

We have looked closely at how other recall campaigns in this province have proceeded, and what it actually takes to succeed against an intentionally high bar. Based on the number of people who have already put forward their time, interest, and money, this campaign, if it went ahead today, we believe we would break records for the number of signatures collected for a recall in this province.

Triggering a recall petition has been our primary focus up until recently. We have now decided the most effective path forward is to shift toward raising awareness of your record within this riding. This is not because there is no appetite to remove you. There is, and the voices above, as a sample, make that clear. It is because British Columbia’s recall law asks residents to collect signatures from 40 percent of registered voters within sixty days, which is quite something when you managed to take the seat with just over 30 percent of the registered voters. We are not willing to spend this riding’s time, money, and trust chasing a bar you yourself never reached.

Just because we are not filing a recall petition at this time, does not mean we won’t. We have our own criteria for if that changes. This does not end our work. We are committed to keeping this riding informed of what you do, and do not do, in this seat, for as long as you hold it.

Make no mistake, based on your record to date, we remain steadfast in our belief that you should be removed from power because of your actions.

We are not attached to how your time in this seat ends. We are attached to ending your hope of reelection. The right thing to do is to ensure that your tenure does not continue based on lack of awareness of the people in this riding. That is an outcome that serves this riding, and we intend to see it through.

As your constituents, many of us have written to you and heard nothing back. But this letter goes on record regardless, and so will your silence.

To Our Supporters,

Thank you. Every person who has signed up, shared a post, donated, or told a neighbour what Tara Armstrong has and hasn’t done in this seat has made this campaign what it is.

We want to be straight with you about where things stand: we are not filing a recall petition right now. We are not giving up, and we have not decided against filing one, we are choosing the timing based on our chances of success.

You volunteered your time and money because you trusted us to use both well. British Columbia’s recall law gives a campaign one shot. If a petition falls short, it can’t be tried again. Tara Armstrong won this seat with just over 30 percent of registered voters but removing her requires signatures from over 40 percent of the registered voters.

To put that number in context, only about 58 percent of registered voters in this riding cast a ballot at all, even in a general election so to clear 40 percent would require getting a signature from roughly 7 out of every 10 people who care enough to actually vote. No MLA has ever been successfully recalled under BC’s current law. Not one. That’s not a knock on the people who’ve tried. It’s the clearest sign yet that the bar itself is part of the problem.

Based on the support we’ve already built, if we triggered a petition today, we believe it would break records for the number of signatures ever collected for a recall in this province. That’s not a small thing, and we don’t take it lightly. But we had to ask ourselves a harder question. Do we want to break a record, or do we want to succeed at removing Tara from office? Those aren’t the same goal, and breaking a record while still falling short of 40 percent would cost this riding real time, money, and trust for a result that changes nothing in the long term.

Your donations to date have been meaningful. Every dollar raised is going toward the work of building this case: advertising, materials, and getting the truth about Tara Armstrong’s record in front of more people in this riding. This work continues regardless of whether the recall petition is filed. What we do know from the support received already is that there is a real desire in this riding to hold her accountable.

So what does holding her accountable look like right now? Today, we are sending Tara Armstrong an open letter, laying out her record in her own words and ours, and putting her on notice that we are not going anywhere. You can read it in full here. We wanted you to have it before anyone else.

Here’s what we’re asking of you right now:

We have learned, from other recall campaigns,what we will need in order to give our petition a real shot at success. That is over $20,000 in donations, 200 volunteer Canvassers, and support from community organizations. If we have these and our leadership in place, we can apply in March for an April/May campaign.

This campaign is far from over, and if you are angry that we are not filing yet, we understand. We trust this communication puts the scale of the burden ahead of us into context but the reality is we need more from you to take a recall campaign further. Taking one or more of the specific actions above and getting louder will be the biggest indicator of  growth towards the target. Let us work together and get Tara Armstrong out of office.

RECALL TARA ARMSTRONG CAMPAIGN RELEASES OPEN LETTER, PUTS MLA ON NOTICE

Kelowna, BC — September 7, 2026 — The Recall Tara Armstrong campaign, a non-partisan effort formed by constituents of the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding, today released an open letter to MLA Tara Armstrong reviewing her record in office and putting her on notice: While we are not applying for a recall petition now, the campaign is not going away.

British Columbia’s recall law requires signatures from 40 percent of a riding’s registered voters within 60 days. Ms. Armstrong herself was elected with votes of just over 30 percent of registered voters. 

Our focus will now be highlighting Ms. Armstrong’s divisive and disrespectful comments and actions.  We will highlight these to our supporters and to local media.

The campaign’s approach is deliberate, not improvised. Organizers reviewed how other BC recall and citizen initiatives efforts have played out, including where they succeeded and where they fell short. Strong local support will be in place before starting a formal process.

“We are not attached to how Tara Armstrong’s time in this seat ends. We are attached to ending her hope of reelection,” said John Plant, Registered Advertising Agent. “Whether or not we ever file a petition, the scrutiny does not end. That kind of tenacity is what actually gets someone like her out of power, not a 60 day window.”

The letter outlines Armstrong’s record since taking office. In April, Armstrong used the phrase “blood and soil,” a founding Nazi slogan, on the floor of the legislature to attack a First Nations treaty and posted a video of herself saying it. She complied with the Speaker’s ruling that the language was unacceptable inside the chamber. Outside, where she isn’t required to follow the rules of the House, the video remains live on her own social media account at the time of writing.

The letter also cites: 

  • bills tabled on housing and affordability with no realistic path to becoming law 
  • housing legislation that repeals renter and speculation protections rather than lowering costs, and 
  • her departure from the BC Conservative Party months after being elected under it.

The campaign says it will continue to provide the riding with regular updates on Armstrong’s record for as long as she holds the seat, and will file a recall petition when it believes it can succeed.
